Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that is triggered by either experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the tragic event that can limit one’s ability to pursue daily goals.
According to recent reports and statistics, at least 20% of the over 2.3 million Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans (Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom) suffer from PTSD and only half of those diagnosed with PTSD seek treatment.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reports that PTSD occurs in as many as 10% of Gulf War (Desert Storm) Veterans and in about 30% of Vietnam Veterans.
This family-friendly 5K is part of the ARVets Behavioral & Physical Health Initiative, which seeks a communal approach to addressing PTSD and other stressors that impact Veterans’ lives. Click on the link below for sponsorship opportunities.
