What is Roulette?

Roullete

Roulette is a casino game with French origins. The term “roulette” means little wheel in French, and the game is believed to have been invented by a 17th-century French mathematician called Blaise Pascal.

The game is played on a wheel which is surrounded by divisions marked with numbers from 1 to 36. The wheel also has a zero and a double zero, both coloured red or black.

A single ball is spun around the wheel, and when it comes to rest, the spindle catches it and the ball falls into one of these divisions. The player who bets on the number where the ball lands wins.

Before the ball drops, people place chips on the betting mat. These chips indicate what bets have been made, and the dealer places them on the wheel when she spins the wheel. When the spin is complete, a buck or puck marks the winning number on the table.

Players can also choose to make a variety of other bets on the table. These bets include inside bets, outside bets, and announced bets. These bets are more complicated and require a greater understanding of the game’s rules.

The game has a small house edge. This ranges from 2.63 percent to 7.89 percent, depending on the type of roulette wheel used.

American roulette games have a lower house edge than European roulette. The difference is due to the presence of a second green division marked 00 on American tables.

Roulette has been an extremely popular game throughout history, and there are many stories of how the game was invented. Some suggest that the game was created by a French monk, or that it was adapted from a Chinese game. However, the true history of the game is far more complex.

A Roulette Wheel:

The wheel on a roulette table is a solid wooden disk with metal partitions around its rim. The divisions are numbered nonconsecutively from 1 to 36 in a seemingly random pattern. They are alternating red and black, and there is a green division numbered 0.

Neighbours Bets:

A very common announced bet on the roulette table is called the neighbours bet. This is a 5-number bet that covers a certain number and 2 neighbouring numbers on each side.

Special Betting Combinations:

There are several special betting combinations that are most commonly found on the French version of the game but can also be present in online European roulette variations. The most famous ones are Les Voisins du Zero and Le Tiers du Cylindre, both of which cover a lot of numbers on the roulette wheel.
